Will my services be covered by insurance?

  • Naturopathic Doctors are not in-network providers with any insurance carriers in the state of Minnesota at this time. If you would like to see this change please support our current legislative efforts through the Minnesota Association of Naturopathic Physicians.
  • Studio Within, LLC and Dr. Tamara Darragh are not in network with any health insurance carriers and do not accept private insurance, Medicare or Medicaid as a means of payment.  We do not submit insurance claims for reimbursement or assist with claim resolution. However, we will provide a detailed billing summary, upon request, which you can submit to your insurance carrier. Check with your health insurance carrier about submitting your bill directly to them for potential reimbursement or applying your payment toward your insurance deductible.
  • You can often utilize the funds in your flexible spending (FSA) or health savings accounts (HSA) to pay for provided services and recommended supplements. It is important to check with your FSA/HSA about this option.
  • Some laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging may be eligible for insurance billing.  This is determined by the individual lab or diagnostic imaging center and your individual insurance plan. It is your responsability to check on these benefits.
  • Payment for the office visit, phone consultation and lab tests is expected at the time of service.  We accept check or credit card (MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express). All credit card payments will be processed the same day of the visit or phone call.
  • NSF Checks will be charged a fee of $29 plus any additional charges incurred per check.

Do I need to make an appointment or can I walk in?

  • We see all patients on an appointment basis.  Appointments should be made as far in advance as possible.
  • Naturopathic Medicine is not just the use of natural therapies; it is the art and science of individualized health care, going beyond superficial symptoms, and getting to the root cause of the illness or disease and re-establishing a basis for health.  Naturopathic care is only possible when the physician has a complete picture of the patient physically, mentally and emotionally.  Appointments are needed in order for us to prepare for visits, especially with new patients.
  • We require that all new patients have all online forms filled out at least 2 business days prior to their first appointment.

What happens if I need to cancel my appointment?

  • If you do need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, we ask that you give us a minimum of 24-hours notice. We spend a great deal of time and energy preparing for and with every one of our patients because we are committed to providing the highest quality of care.  In order for us to do so, our patient visits require us to block off large amounts of time, which creates scheduling problems when canceling or rescheduling visits at the last minute.  We have implemented this policy to continue providing this level of individualized care for each and every patient and to better utilize available appointments for those in need.
  • If new patient or follow-up appointments are missed or cancelled with less than a 24-hour notice, we reserve the right to charge at one half the normal rate of the scheduled service.  For the first missed appointment or late cancellation there will be no charge as we do understand that on occasion emergencies do happen and may prevent you from keeping an appointment.
  • We will also provide you with as much notice as possible should we need to reschedule your appointment.

Can a ND serve as my primary care provider?

While NDs are trained in primary care medicine, our scope of practice is limited in the State of Minnesota.  We are happy to work with or help you find a primary care provider that will collaborate with us to be sure you have your bases covered in case you need care which requires acute attention, a new medication or change in your current prescription, hospitalization, surgery or obstetrical care. We love collaborating with other providers as our services often complement each other very well.  Many other providers do not have the extensive nutritional, botanical, lifestyle or physical medicine training that NDs receive, but frequently recognize that patients can benefit from this kind of care.  NDs can and do take extremely thorough histories and perform extensive physical examinations.  We can perform labs (standard & specialty), order ultrasounds, x-rays, MRIs, CTs and other diagnostic tests.  We can make referrals to other health care providers, such as internists, gynecologists, oncologists, gastroenterologists, rheumatologists, etc.

Why would I choose to see a ND?

It would be appropriate to make this choice if you want to explore your health care options for most illnesses, are seeking ways to optimize your health, prevent disease and/or if you desire therapeutic options either in addition to or in place of medication and surgery for an illness. Health and illness are very multifactorial and need to be addressed from many vantage points.  As an ND and Functional Medicine specialist, Dr. Tamara is trained to look at the details and the interconnections of the whole person.  She can offer a unique therapeutic plan that offers many options.
